Fr. Benedict Croell, O.P., a Dominican friar, hails from Colorado. He studied at Colorado State University, Providence College (RI), the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome. He has served in parish, university and itinerant preaching ministries. He also served 5 years in the Order's East African missions where he was novice master for friars in their initial stage of formation from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Southern Sudan, Angola, Mozambique and South Africa. He has been Director of Vocations for the Eastern Province Dominicans since 2010 and lives with over 80 friars in the largest Dominican house in North America: the Dominican House of Studies in our nation's capital. The province of St. Joseph is struggling in a good way, that is financially, because there are more than 65 friars in formation. Together with other friars, he is reaching out to young Catholics across the country to preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Fr. Benedict was named a Missionary of Mercy for the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy by our holy father, Pope Francis on Ash Wednesday 2016 in Rome.

"Lord, look upon our troubled times, which need preachers of the Gospel, witnesses to you, persons who can point the way toward 'life in abundance!'  Look upon our world and feel pity once more!  Look upon our world and send us laborers!"   - Pope Benedict XVI
